Before photos
The before set records the roof as found: curled or missing shingles, the number of layers at the rake, granule loss, flashing condition, and the attic from below. These are the photos that justify the scope. A homeowner comparing quotes can hold them against what another contractor wrote.
For storm claims, before photos with a timestamp are the document the adjuster wants. They are taken before any tarp goes on.
Tear-off and deck photos
The most useful photos in any roofing gallery are the ones nobody sees once the roof is done: the bare deck. Soft plywood at the eaves, plank gaps, old water staining under a chimney, and the spot where a previous repair used roof cement over a hole. Every deck repair is photographed with a tape measure in frame so the square footage billed matches what was replaced.
Ice barrier and flashing photos follow, taken before the shingle covers them. These are also what the building inspector reviews if the site visit is scheduled at completion rather than mid-job.
Finished residential work
Completed capes and colonials in weathered wood, charcoal and pewter, with new ridge vent, matched hip and ridge cap, and new drip edge. Shoreline houses show the difference a stainless fastener and an aluminum drip edge make against the salt.
The finished set also shows the yard: tarps down, magnet sweep done, gutters cleared. A clean site is part of the job and gets photographed like anything else.
Metal roofs
Standing-seam installations in matte charcoal and dark bronze on capes and on additions where a low-slope section met a steeper main roof. Detail shots show the hidden clip system, hemmed valley pans and snow guards above entrances, because those details are what separate a 50 year metal roof from a 15 year one.
Commercial and flat roofs
EPDM seam repairs, full TPO replacements over tapered insulation, new coping and edge metal on Post Road retail buildings, and reflashed HVAC curbs. Ponding areas are photographed before and after tapered insulation corrects the drainage, which is the clearest way to show a property manager what the work achieved.

Homeowners planning a roof are welcome to ask for photos of a similar house type, shingle color or roof detail so the decision is made against real work rather than a manufacturer brochure.
